Muslim/Muslim Ticket for APC in 2015 Presidential Election

There were very strong indications at the weekend that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governors who defected to the All Progressive Congress, APC, are ready to fully engage leaders of their new party, former military head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari, and former Lagos State governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over the growing suggestion that both men are plotting to contest as presidential and vice presidential candidates in the 2015 elections, Sunday Vanguard can reveal.

The other leg of the twist to the emerging katakata in APC is the position of former President Olusegun Obasanjo who is said to favour the emergence of Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as the party’s presidential candidate.

Jonathan's Political Foes are Behind Boko Haram - Alaafin

ALAAFIN of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has flayed the activities of the Boko Haram sect, saying that the group is being sponsored by enemies of President Goodluck Jonathan to achieve political goals.

The Alafin in a letter of sympathy to the president following the Nyanya, Abuja bomb blast, said the group’s alleged links to Islam was unfounded as he said that Boko Haram’s activities were against the injunctions of the religion. In the letter dated April 16, 2014, the monarch urged the president to seek international cooperation from neighboring countries towards stemming the activities of the insurgents.

APC Problems Begin from State to State

The just concluded ward and local government congresses of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State, have divided the party structure in the state into two, with one side praising the conduct of the election while the other side is opposing same and had called for its cancellation.

The division is coming just as an APC leader in the state, Major Isaac Tobore (rtd), who is aspiring to be the state chairman of the party, said that the elections were inconclusive and massively rigged, adding that what happened was a charade and a game of selection done by decampees from other political parties outside the congress venues, against the dictate of the party, the will and interest of the original party members. He called for the cancellation of the entire elections.

Reaction of Presidency to Nyako Letter

The Presidency on Saturday reacted sharply to a letter written by Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State to his northern governors, Nyako had in the letter accused the Federal Government under President Goodluck Jonathan’s watch as carrying out genocide against northern states with impunity.

President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe,, therefore, urged Nigerians to ignore the letter which he described as senseless letter. “It is obvious that Governor Nyako’s opposition to the declaration of a state of emergency in three affected states of the North East as well as his repeated calls for the withdrawal of the Military from troubled states without any credible alternative or security road map, is an open endorsement of the activities of the insurgents which is meant to provide them unrestricted opportunity to further unleash terror on innocent citizens in order to precipitate chaos, further instability, mayhem and anarchy; a situation which they intend to exploit to undermine the administration and truncate our growing democracy. This, Nigerians will surely not allow to happen.”

Lesson to Learn From this Picture of GEJ and Gen. Buhari

President GoodLuck Ebere Jonathan and General Mohammed Buhari at the Centenary celebration; some people will be abusing and killing themselves over nothing for the two.Politics should be played with sense. Some don't see reasons for celebrations, but our leaders does....God bless Nigeria

Some comments from Nigerians about this unity...............

* This is the whole idea of the centenary awards. Pictures like this can help heal the nation. Let this nation heal. A situation where certain individuals choose to politicize the killings of innocent Nigerians and by default actually support Boko haram in the name of criticizing the government is just plain pathetic and unpatroitic.

* I still believe in Nigeria. Someday, just as this picture depicts, we shall live as brothers and true friends in the spirit of that UNITY AND FAITH. God bless Nigeria.

* That's the love, Gen. Buhari, show Tinubu, Bisi Akande, Lai Mohammed just how to be an opposition... Being an opposition doesn't mean you reject or turn down every proposal by the ruling Gov't just to make the ruling Gov't look incompetent.

War is Coming Between Nigeria and Cameroon Over Boko Haram

There are strong indications that Nigeria and Cameroon may clash over Boko Haram as the Federal Government accuses Cameroon of harbouring members of the militant Islamic sect.

Saturday PUNCH learnt on Thursday that the Federal Government was becoming increasingly frustrated by the refusal of Cameroon to cooperate with Nigeria in its efforts to combat the militant Islamic sect.

A top source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who confided in one of our correspondents in Abuja, said that President Goodluck Jonathan would report Cameroon to relevant agencies in the United Nations.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that the Federal Government was of the view that since the joint commissions had not yielded any positive fruit, it should start looking towards a new direction.

“The best option is to involve the military and use the policy of hot pursuit,’’ a foreign ministry source noted.

Femi Aribisala Reason for Sanusi to End-up in Kirikiri

Nothing speaks more eloquently about this culture of impunity than the CBN under Lamido Sanusi. Sanusi’s posture as CBN Governor is an insult to Nigerians. He ran the place as a personal estate. He flouted every financial regulation.

He gave away government money in a flagrant manner that would give pause to even billionaire Mike Adenuga. And then when he knew the game was up, he decided to blow the lid on NNPC financial indiscretions, in order to distract attention and attract public support and sympathy. Nigerians should not fall for this “mago-mago.” Lamido Sanusi should not only be sacked, he should be tried and, if convicted, should be jailed.

The last thing a country needs is a CBN governor who talks frivolously. The word of a CBN governor has implications for financial market volatility; therefore he must mark his words. He must speak with confidence

Dr Okonjo-Iweala Admit That the NNPC Missing Money is $10.8b

"The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has asked for urgent action with regard to an independent forensic audit of conflicting claims of unaccounted funds made by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamdio Sanusi".

And here is a direct statement from Dr Okonjo-Iweala, the finance minister:

Funny Cartoon of the $20b NNPC Money

I don't seems to know where this country is going, because how can such amount of money be missing when is not a needle. But all the same this cartoon is funny any way and i think the person falling is Sanusi the former CBN Governor and the people under the rock/road are the looter.

“On the implications for  the economy; I’m not an economist but I personally feel that it  will definitely send wrong signals to investors. This is because you need to have confidence in the financial institutions, particularly the independence of the financial institutions of a country,  before investors will consider such a country worthy of their investments.

Also on Sunday, the  Serving Overseer of The Latter Rain Assembly, Lagos, Pastor Tunde Bakare, said   that  the  suspension of   Sansusi would have negative  implications for  the nation.

You Can’t Suspend The Truth - Sanusi

I have no  regrets;  I   have no ill-feelings  and with no sadness.  I’m happy; I’m proud of what I have done.”

These were the words of  Lamido Sanusi  as he reacted to his suspension  as the Central Bank of Nigeria governor by President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday.

Although it was learnt that  he might  challenge his suspension in court, Sanusi  reminded the Jonathan administration: “You can suspend an individual but you can’t suspend the truth.”
Sanusi, who added that   his suspension did not bother him, said his  “biggest concern is for the system .”

He was  attending a meeting of the West African Central Bank Governors in  Niamey, Niger Republic when the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, announced his suspension.
Abati,  in a statement in Abuja,  said Jonathan  took the decision because  Sanusi’s tenure  had been  characterised by acts of financial recklessness and misconduct.

Abati’s  statement reads, “Having taken special notice of reports of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria and other investigating bodies, which indicate clearly that Mallam  Sanusi’s tenure has been characterised by various acts of financial recklessness and misconduct which are inconsistent with the administration’s vision of a central bank propelled by the core values of focused economic management, prudence, transparency and financial discipline;

MD Zenith Bank Replace Sanusi as CBN Governor

Not much is known about the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Zenith Bank Plc, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, who has been nominated by President Goodluck Jonathan to succeed Mr. Lamido Sanusi as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria in June.

Emefiele is an economic and finance professional with experience in banking and academics. His calm demeanour bodes well for the role of an economic manager and bank regulator, according to analysts.

As clock ticks ahead of the 2015 Presidential election, a group under the umbrella of the Nigeria Mandate, 2015 yesterday advised northern political leaders to let go the dream of taking over from Goodluck Jonathan.
